Somehow she didn’t want to confess to him that she was so weary of trusting those people who seemed to want to care about her so badly. He touched her cheek gently, caressing her. Her heart was beating so loudly, that surely he could hear it. He smoothes her hair back, the touch of his fingers sending waves of awareness through her.
